Dear Harbor Island West Marina Skippers,
We hope this message finds you well and enjoying the summer boating season!
We are writing to share some exciting news. Last week we received our final building permits for our Harbor Island West Marina’s redevelopment project, which means work will soon be underway. This project will include improvements on both the landside and waterside, helping us ensure a safe, modern and welcoming marina so that our boating community continues to thrive for years to come.
We understand that any construction project can raise concerns, especially how it might affect your boating experience. Please know that we are absolutely committed to minimizing any inconvenience to you. And while there will be some disruption, we’re doing everything we can to keep impact to a minimum and still allow you to continue to enjoy your boat. Safety will always come first, and we’ll communicate any impacts well in advance so there are no surprises. Fortunately, we are confident that the end product will be worth the wait and inconvenience
What to Expect:
Since receiving our final building permits – which culminated a 15-month application process with the City of San Diego – between now and the end of this year we will be commencing the construction part of our project in carefully planned phases over the next 18 to 24 months. As you may know, our entire project includes a rebuilding of all buildings, docks, and landside facilities.
Here is an initial high-level overview of the project sequence:
July to September
Preliminary site work on the property to include trenching west parking lot and installing of temporary utilities. Related site work includes fencing and storm water runoff containment systems.
September to November
Vacating existing buildings, establishing temporary offices and shower rooms facilities, and begin demo of existing buildings.
November through March 2026
Begin first of 5 phases for dock renovation. This first dock phase will include the 100 and 200 docks. It is planned that this phase will begin in mid-November and be finished in March of 2026. Shortly, we will be reaching out separately to our 100 and 200 dock boaters to discuss timing and relocation plans.
Our General Contractor, Pacific Building Group has assured us that it is their primary goal to minimize disruptions and inconvenience for our boaters. With that in mind please feel free to share with us any issues or concerns that come up so we can address them early and take care of our skippers!
Staying in Touch:
Your feedback, questions and ideas are always welcome. We want to keep you informed every step of the way. It is our plan to provide monthly email updates specific to the project and to post this information on our website for you to refer back to and check for updates. Within the week we plan to post a site diagram on the website to show the areas of the parking lot that are currently effected. In addition, it is important to point out that the marina office is open 7 days a week and you are encouraged to stop by anytime if you have any questions. Don’t be bashful, we are here for you.
