Dear Harbor Island West Marina Skippers,
We are excited to share the latest updates on the marina’s transformation! With construction
momentum building, we want to keep everyone in the loop on what’s happening, what’s
coming next, and how it affects our marina community. Most of our pre-construction work was
completed before the end of last year and we have been waiting for final entitlements to
commence the construction of the overall project. On Friday, February 27th we received all
of our final approvals!

The smaller east parking lot is currently closed for some construction prep work and
underground utility work. Once completed we anticipate that the south section of this lot
will be reopened for parking by mid April.
Access to Gate 4 will be closed while our contractor installs a new temporary side walk for path
of travel to Gate 4. This access should be reopened by March 19th.
Dock Gate 3 will be permanently closed starting March 19th. After March 19th,
primary access to the docks will be through Gate 2 and Gate 4.
Dock Gate 1 will be temporarily closed for 4 to 6 months starting April 1st,
2026.
Demolition of all the marina buildings will commence on the last Monday in April. This process
is anticipated to take a couple of months but will not affect any ongoing marina operations.
Parking
During certain phases of construction, portions of our parking lots will be temporarily closed.
We understand that convenient parking is an essential part of your boating experience, and we
sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. Please know that minimizing
disruption for our boaters is one of our top priorities. We are actively working with the Port of
San Diego to secure alternative lot parking options and we will be limiting non-boater parking in
the lots. In addition, we are working closely with our onsite general contractors. As best they
can, they have agreed to move fencing for weekends and busy periods during the summer to
maximize parking opportunities. This will be an ongoing process and we will keep you posted on
changes and new developments as frequently as we can. We deeply appreciate your patience
and understanding as we invest in improvements designed to enhance your marina experience
for years to come. The temporary lot closures will pave the way for upgraded facilities,
improved amenities, and an even more welcoming waterfront environment.
Slip Transfers Update
Slip transfers have settled for now and we truly thank everyone who moved for their flexibility
and cooperation. The docks that we needed to free up (100 Dock & 200 Dock) to commence
dock construction have been vacated and there will be no need for any additional transfers until
Phase 2 starts which is scheduled to be in 4 to 5 months. At that time, if there is a need to
transfer boats around, then we should be able to accommodate transfers in the first new
sections of docks or in vacancies elsewhere in the marina. We will communicate well in advance
if any slip transfers become necessary.
Business as Usual on the Water
Even with all this exciting progress, the marina remains fully operational including the fuel dock
which will remain open until early next year. We are open, active, and running under normal
conditions. Slip access and marina services continue as usual. And if you haven’t had a chance
to come by the marina office trailer, be sure to stop by the marina office trailer and say hello!
We’re always happy to chat, answer questions, and share what’s coming next as the marina
continues to take shape.
This redevelopment represents an exciting step forward, and we truly appreciate your patience,
flexibility, and support along the way. We’re looking forward to sharing more progress updates
soon.
