Dear Harbor Island West Marina Skippers,
We’re excited to share an important update on the Marina Redevelopment Project. First, thank you for your patience — we know it’s been a little while since our last message, and we appreciate your understanding as we finalized a few key details behind the scenes.
Project Update
If you have been around the marina recently, you’ve likely noticed that preparations for the redevelopment are well underway as we await our formal construction start. While we originally anticipated beginning in early October, the updated projected dates are:
- Landside construction: Begins December 15, 2025
- Waterside construction: Begins January 19, 2026
What’s Next:
Marina Office
This week we vacated the main building and moved into our temporary office trailer located in the parking lot. You will see new signs and flags guiding you to the temporary office — which might actually be easier to find than the old one! Beginning Thursday, November 20, 2025, all marina business will be conducted from the trailer office. We will continue providing all services without interruption. Please feel free to stop by and check out the new space next time you are at the marina.
Restrooms & Showers
Starting Monday, November 24, the men’s and women’s shower rooms in the main building will be closed.
Temporary men’s and women’s restroom and shower trailers will open the same day in the west parking lot, adjacent to the marina office. New readers and locks compatible with your existing key cards have been installed, so your current cards will work automatically.
The existing restroom and shower building at the west end of the parking lot will remain open until December 31, 2025.
Parking Lot
There will be no changes to the current parking lot configuration until after December 15, 2025. After that date, portions of the smaller east lot will be temporarily closed for construction. Once finalized, we will send an updated notice with a map and detailed layout of the revised parking areas.
Marina Businesses
As of November 19, our sailing club (Harbor Sailboats) and California Yacht Sales have moved into temporary office trailers in the parking lot next to the new marina office. Feel free to stop by and visit their new setup!
Slips
For those concerned about slip availability and security during redevelopment, please know that the most challenging phase — relocating vessels from the 100 & 200 docks — is now largely complete. We are pleased to report that the disruption was far less than expected.
This success is due to your flexibility and cooperation, along with the careful coordination by our marina team. During future phases, a small number of vessels may be temporarily relocated to alternate slips, but we will communicate early, clearly, and frequently to make the process as smooth as possible.
Shore Power
In preparation for dock work beginning in January, we will be making minor adjustments to the shore power systems. During the week of November 24, there will be brief, localized shutdowns to complete this work. We will notify you if your dock will be affected — though the outages should be minimal and, in many cases, barely noticeable.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Marina Community
We are truly excited for what lies ahead — from upgraded docks and improved infrastructure to refreshed amenities and new gathering spaces that reflect the spirit of the Harbor Island West community.
We will continue to keep you updated every step of the way. Please reach out to the office with any questions. Thank you again for your support, patience, and trust as we bring this vision to life.
